Course Description
Many of us think we don’t have rhythm or we’re not musical. Drumming comes from the heart – our inner drum. It is our connection to the rhythm of nature. We will learn about various types of hand drums and other percussion instruments. The benefits of hand drumming will be discussed and felt firsthand. This course is not about becoming an expert drummer – it’s about self-expression, relaxation, spirituality, and quality of life. It is not required that participants own a hand drum.
Instructor
Karen Bates is a retired nurse practitioner who became interested in hand drumming while learning the Native American-style Flute. She founded and leads the Skunk River Drum Circle in Ames, which meets monthly. She is a member of the Drum Circle Facilitators Guild. She also leads the Ioway Creek Flute Circle in Ames.
