Tom Barton joined the faculty of the ISU Chemistry Department in 1967 and retired as Emeritus Distinguished Professor in 2012. In addition to teaching and research,he served 18 years as Director of the Ames National Laboratory. After retirement,he served as President of the American Chemical Society.

Course Description
This course is offered to those with zero or lots of musical background and a desire to learn to make music with a low-cost, cuddly 4-string instrument that allows you to sing along. You will be exposed to such things as musical symbols, notes,chords, and scales. Ukulele tabulation will make it possible to play the uke without mastering musical notation. We will work on finger picking, but the emphasis will be on chording. Most of our time will be spent playing songs through chords.
