Ning Chia came from Beijing, China with an undergraduate education in history. She received an M.A. from Illinois State University and a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University. She was a history professor at Central College in Pella, Iowa for 31 years before joining the ISU OLLI teaching team in fall 2022.

Course Description
This course will first introduce the Mongol Empire of the 13th and 14th centuries and demonstrate the four parts of this largest-ever land empire in world history: China’sYuan dynasty, the Golden Horde of Russia, Central Asia, and the present Middle East. It will then present topics of the Chingg is Khan heritage in present Mongol society, the Mongol nomadic way of life, the influence of the former Soviet Union, the Mongol relationship with the United States today, etc.
