Course Description

Through the history of prehistoric artifacts, Byzantium’s influence and Russian dominance, Ukrainian artists maintained their own visual culture as they interacted with the influences of their times. Their western-style art is flavored by these influences but remains deeply rooted in the Ukrainian landscape and cultural experiences. This presentation gives a quick sketch of this long visual history and sets it in the context of broader social developments.

Instructor

Carol Veldman Rudie uses her college teaching skills to research and present background to the Russian Empire, Soviet art, and culture.
