Course Description
C.Y. Stephens had an affinity for theater and education. When his college buddy, James Hilton, asked him to head the national fund-raising campaign for the Iowa State Center in 1961, Stephens was the perfect person for the daunting job. Stephens’ efforts changed not only ISU, but also Ames and central Iowa.
Instructor
Steve Jones is a retired ISU communications manager and author of two children’s books, about Jack Trice and World War II’s Red Tails. His 2025 book, A Giving Man–The Story of C.Y. Stephens, is about the man who bought into James Hilton’s dream for an Iowa State cultural center–and made it happen.
