Course Description

George Washington was much more than a marble statue; he was a man of complexity and a multitude of abilities which he worked hard to develop. He was also a man of character and principle. This course will explore not only what he achieved, but what he was like as an individual, as a general, and as the first president of a small group of states attempting to unite as a nation.

Instructor

Jane Cox is an Iowa State Professor Emerita and, many years ago, a student at Iowa State. During that time she was fortunate to have a wonderful history professor, Dr. Clarence Matterson. He made history come alive and said, “History is not so much about dates; history is about people.”
